Learning to Enjoy Your Wilderness While You Are There. . .

Pastor Peggy Carter

There are times in one’s life when one must endure some great hardships, high pressures, circumstances, challenges and issues. But in the midst of it all, God is still there. Although you can’t see him he is still there. Learning to enjoy your wilderness will cause you to stay focused and in tune to your heart.

The pressures in life will cause you to take a wrong turn. I have learned that there is joy in our wilderness. It all depends on our perspective and our outlook on life. Your wilderness is your therapy because in your wilderness is your life lessons. You can overcome because the Lord is on your side.

Enjoying your wilderness while you are there will cause you to be contented. In the presence of the Lord is the fullness of joy. There are some great lessons to be learned in the wilderness. You learn to survive, deal with adversity, overcome obstacles and loneliness and solitary places where there is no one but you and the wild beasts of the field. Even though you may feel alone, God’s word says he will never leave you nor will he forsake you. He will be with you until the end of the world. In your wilderness, you learn what it’s like to really depend and trust in God.

Proverbs  3: 5-6 says to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your path.” In your wilderness you have the opportunity to gain wisdom, knowledge and understanding. The word of God says in all your getting, get an understanding. It is important to have the right understanding of what God has designed for your journey during your wilderness experience. According to 2nd Corinthians 12:9, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”

One thing I have found to be true is this, when God is  sufficient, you then become effective in the word to become effective in the ministry that God has entrusted you with during your wilderness experience.

Learning to have joy in your wilderness will cause you to have  inner strength. You will learn to be renewed day to day, taking life one day at a time. . . Oh, yes, sometimes we worry about our tomorrow but the Lord says, “Take therefore no thought for the morrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself, sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and all his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33).

Whatever you’re facing in your wilderness the Lord will see you through. You must go through in order to come through. You must know and trust that God allows trials in one’s life to help us develop character; when you’re out in your valley and you don’t fully understand your wilderness you must believe that God has your best at heart. According to Jeremiah 29:11:“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” saith the Lord,“Thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” Sometimes your wilderness can be in your mind. It’s the thoughts that we sometimes think that cause us to be afraid of things, places, people, because we don’t fully understand the God we served. Therefore we don’t renew our mind according to Romans 12:2, “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.”

While you are in your wilderness, count it all Joy. Do not be in a hurry to leave. Stay there until God shows you the correct way to travel. Oh, yes, there are so many great benefits being in the valley: endurance, peace, praying, meditation, fasting, worshipping, and praising God for the victory through Christ Jesus. Before you realize it you have left your wilderness in your mind first, then the manifestation, in other words, the Vision will come. Learning to enjoy your wilderness while you are there, means to trust in the Lord. He will be with you. Keep your eyes on the Lord. He will deliver you. You are closer than what you think. So enjoy it while you are there.

It is my prayer that God will see you all the way through. Remember that love does go the distance. The bottom line is to learn to enjoy your wilderness while you are there. Remember the key to greatness is HUMBLENESS.
