Yes, the biological clock maybe ticking and you feel time is running out. When you visit your married friends they seem happy, at least in most cases, they have children and they are moving on, and you want that. That is called coveting what someone else has. We are warned against that in God’s instructions to us. The biggest mistake you could make is to settle for, or draw up specs for what you want and then ask God to bless it. God knows more about what you need than you do. Your design would probably be either a replica of you, or someone who would do all of the work in the relationship (and I don’t mean work around the home). You would want them to be romantic, sexy, handsome, be at your disposal, etc. Do you know that opposites attract each other, that two likes repel each other? What you want, your likes, could very well lean in the repel mode later in the marital relationship. It would get boring because you are already bored with yourself. If this is your thinking you may be struggling with finding your true self and you think happiness will come from someone else. The best Christian marriage advice I could give you: Seek God and wait upon him. Don’t jump at what looks like the one. If that person is just like you, or what you ordered, then how much room is there for growing together in Christ? What makes a lasting marriage is choosing to have a Christian relationship, one that honors God, one where when you are not on the same page, you ask God to help you to work it out, to give you his heart for the other person versus catering to the selfish you that doesn’t have to get along with, or compromise. If you enter the marriage covenant with the right knowledge, and a commitment to keep the faith and to keep God in the center through daily prayer and devotion, marriage problems will work themselves out in the spirit, spilling over into the natural.
