Is The Church Falling Away From Truth?

“Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. 8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. 1 Tim 4: 7,8”
 

Looking back as a child and now as an adult with children and grandchildren at my early Christian experiences I can remember elders of my childhood speaking devoutly about Jesus, God, the Holy Spirit, believing, receiving and living for the Lord. I knew one thing I did not want to pretend to be godly, I would rather stay out of the church than fake godliness.

I left the church for years because I didn’t know I didn’t have to clean myself up, that Jesus made me a worthy vessel and as I yielded to his spirit my life would be transformed. There was a time I looked forward to one day making the commitment to God because it seemed like those who did had something special..

Now, I am one. . . a Christian from the inside out. My eyes have opened. I see flaws, wobbly walks that do not look Godly. I never saw this as a sinner. As a new believer I grew discontent over what I saw. I doubted who these folks were, what was wrong, are we serving the same God?

Coming into the body, my walk was also wobbly. I was just like those I spoke of: I kept falling short. But what changed? Why did I decide to go all the way?  Who is this who could draw me from such a mess and give me a new heart, cause such a change in my life? I was curious. I wanted to know him, to learn of Him. Not in the way others knew him, portrayed him, not by word of mouth but by my personal experience. I heard of Him from others all of my life, and I saw how they acted and I thought “this won’t work for me. I’ve got to be all the way or no way, either all the way or no way.”        

Over time as I pursued Him my heart turned. I no longer desired to wobble before Him. Along the way I have discovered that each of us have a choice, even after salvation; God does not force us to serve Him.

More and more the people’s hearts have replaced the zeal for God with the ways of the world, ignoring the truth of scripture. Praise and worship has become entertainment. The preaching is a mix of lies and truths. Where are the leaders? Even the youth have been sacrificed to immature leaders who do not understand their role relation to bringing those youth into the body of Christ as a whole. Discipleship has ceased, or doesn’t exist.

I knew it was bad but I didn’t know it was this bad and getting worse. The problem is they have chosen to ignore the warnings through the scripture, and I can’t. When I didn’t know the truth I could not be held accountable, but not now.

1 Timothy 4: 10 states “ That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe.”

Will you follow Christ? Will you continue in the instructions of the Bible? Or will you in an effort to be liked by men allow yourself to be drawn into and away from godliness? Let us not stop striving, put our hope in the living God who will not let our feet be moved. It’s time to wake up!
